Equipment Usage Instructions

Safety and proper handling of our rental gear ensure a successful trip. Please review these essential usage instructions before deploying the equipment on the ice.

Ice Auger Operation

Always keep the blade guard attached when transporting the auger. When drilling, maintain a wide stance and let the weight of the machine do the work; do not force it down. Ensure the engine is fully warmed up before engaging the throttle in sub-zero temperatures.

Shelter Setup Guidelines

Unfold the insulated tent smoothly to avoid stressing the hub mechanisms. Immediately anchor the shelter using the provided ice screws on all windward corners before fully extending the roof. Ensure all ventilation flaps are partially open to prevent condensation buildup.

Heater Safety Protocols

Propane heaters must only be used in well-ventilated spaces. Keep combustible materials at least three feet away from the heating element. Always connect propane cylinders outside the tent to prevent gas pooling in enclosed areas.

Rental Terms & Policies

Security Deposits

A fully refundable security deposit is required for all advanced bookings upon final confirmation. The deposit amount varies based on the total value of the gear requested. It will be returned in full upon the safe and clean return of all equipment.

Cancellations

We understand weather conditions can change rapidly. Cancellations made at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled pickup time will incur no penalties. Late cancellations may be subject to a minor restocking fee depending on gear demand.

Equipment Damage

Renters are responsible for the gear during the rental period. Normal wear and tear is expected, but significant damage due to negligence or failure to follow usage instructions will result in repair or replacement costs deducted from the deposit.

Late Returns

Punctual returns ensure the next adventurer has their gear ready. Items returned past the agreed-upon time without prior communication may be subject to additional daily rental charges. Please communicate delays via email.

Preparing For Your Expedition

Having the right rental equipment is only half the battle. Surviving and enjoying an entire day on the ice requires proper personal preparation. We strongly advise our clients to review local ice thickness reports before venturing out and to dress appropriately for sub-zero wind chills.

  • Layered Clothing

Utilize moisture-wicking base layers, insulating mid-layers, and a windproof/waterproof outer shell. Avoid cotton materials entirely.

  • Ice Safety Check

Always verify that ice is at least 4 inches thick for walking, and significantly thicker for vehicles. Carry an ice spud and safety picks.
